Yesterday I ran my last long run of 8 miles! The run was awesome and my confidence is building that this marathon will be a success!
It's time for another runner spotlight!!!
This week I am spotlighting Erin from A Storybook Life! I started connecting with Erin and her husband Chris during my Burpee Boom Challenge! They are THE custest couple and I have enjoyed getting to know them better! Keep reading to learn more about Erin!
Name: Erin Jimenez
State: The Sunshine State
When and
why did you start running?
It's not a secret that I've struggled with my
weight for my entire life. Even as a competitive swimmer, I never was
"thin". In December of 2011 I hit an all time low. I'd continued to
gain weight, I was uncomfortable and I was ready to make some changes. In January (2012) my co-worker and I began
our journey of eating healthy.
I combined a healthy diet with a morning walk
(4.5 miles) and began my journey to lose weight. One day, while walking with my
husband and two doggies an older, larger man jogged passed me. At that moment 1
thing and one thing only crossed my mind.
"If he can do it, I can do it!" and
away I went.
What is your
favorite race and race distance?
So far I have only participated in one race. The
Disney Expedition Everest Challenge, 5K + Scavenger Hunt. It was incredible! I
highly recommend it to anyone who loves adventure, Animal Kingdom, and fun.
I have plans to run my first half marathon in
February (Disney Princess 1/2).
What is
your race day routine?
Since I've only done a night race, here is my
timeline before the race:
•
Sleep in,
eat a healthy breakfast and lunch.
•
Go swimming
then take a nap.
•
Macaroni
and Cheese for dinner (about 3 hours before the run)
•
Stretch,
Stretch, Stretch ... (freak out a little)
•
Run!
After the race, my husband and I have made a tradition
to go eat a cheeseburger and fries. It's a "once and a while" treat!
What is
your most favorite piece of running gear?
I run my best when I'm wearing my Reebok Socks…the
ones that have additional support around the middle of my foot. Sounds silly, I know. BUT I love those
things! :)
Do you
follow any diet or take any specific supplements that complement your running?
I do not. I try to eat very healthy, and will
often take a multivitamin (when I remember).
What do you
wish you’d known when you first started running?
I wish I had known that you could get medals for
running. I would have started years ago!
(Okay, maybe not...) Honestly, the biggest thing I wish I had taken advantage
of sooner is the support system online with Twitter, Blogs, and other forms of
social media. I love reading about other people and their journey.
What is
your fondest running memory?
There was a moment during my first 5K when my
husband and I were jogging next to each other and he looked at me and said
"I'm really proud of you".
What is one
thing that most people do not know about you?
When I was younger, My Nana wanted to take us to
see the Mermaids at Wiki-Watchie Springs. My mom loaded us in the car and took
us. Everything was really fun until a
Pelican decided to land on the roof of the boat we were riding in and poop...
Right-on-my-arm!! I have never been more
embarrassed in all my life, as soon as we got off the boat, I rushed
straight to the restroom to clean my arm.
...
I hate birds.
Most people know I hate birds. However, most
people do not know why (until now of course).
