This morning I am running my 11th half marathon! Hopefully my hip will do ok...and the new shoes will do ok too. I'm not expecting to PR...just get the miles in for marathon training. Might as well get a medal since I have to run anyway right??? :-)
It's Runner Spotlights Day!!! If you would like to be spotlighted on my blog send me an email at mindy@roadrunnergirl.com!
Today I am spotlighting Alex from Healthy Life Happy Wife! Love her story! Keep reading to find out more about her!
Name: Alex
State: New York
When and why did you start running?
I started running seriously in November 2011 because I wanted something
more from my fitness routine. I had just
been going through the motions before that – going to the gym, hopping on the
elliptical for 45 minutes with my magazine, doing some bicep curls, and
repeating that 3-5 times per week. I
wanted something more. I needed a goal
to work toward. That’s when I signed up
for the NYC Half Marathon and began my training. Now I am hooked.
What is your favorite race and race distance?
My favorite race was definitely the NYC Half Marathon because it was my
first distance race and I ran it with my little brother. My favorite race distance would probably be a
10K because I can run a little faster than during a half marathon. I love running fast (or at least fast for
me!)
What is your race day routine?
I like to wake up early, have a cup of coffee, large water & a banana
before a race. I also really like to
have my play list all set and listen to it on my way to the race to pump myself
up.
What is your most favorite piece of running gear?
My favorite piece of running gear is definitely my Garmin 305! I rely on that thing way too much but I love
being able to pace myself accurately.
Do you follow any diet or take any specific supplements that complement
your running?
I drink Cheribundi after just about every run (tart cherry juice) &
drink Nuun during my long training runs.
Other than that, it really depends on the day!
What do you wish you’d known when you first started running?
I wish that I had known how important running gear is – especially
running socks – and how important stretching/foam rolling is.
What is your fondest running memory?
My fondest running memories are every training run I get to enjoy with my
husband. I love that we can be active
together. We are currently training
together for a relay in October so there will be plenty more fond memories in
the future ;)
What is one thing that most people do not know about you?
I’m a pretty open book but most people probably don’t know that I record
every episode of How I Met Your Mother that airs on TV. I could watch that show over and over and
over again (& I do). It's legen…wait
for it…dary!
